Fashion, Textiles & Patterns

The last two days, I have been creating new surface patterns for my art licensing business.  I really love the new pattern listed above, so much, it's now my new web blog header in a different colorway.  I am also thinking of having a silk scarves made from the surface pattern to list for sale.  I can imagine a scarf, a beautiful silk camisole to wear at night and, many other fashion items.

Until the next surface pattern.  Wishing you a wonderful day!!

If you're a creative spirit, as I am, you know how important it is to create every day of your life.  I believe the creative spirit needs to be nurtured on a daily basis, if you do not create daily, your creative spirit will start to die off.  Any musician or songwriter will tell you they need to play their instrument or write song lyrics every day to strengthen their talent.  It's the same with creating artwork; you need to draw, paint or whatever your muse on a daily basis to strengthen your talent.

It may not be easy to create every day, because sometimes life gets in the way, although, try and find the time to create.  Also, you may be going through something in your life, where you need healing. It may be your body, mind or spirit, if you create every day, you will start to feel better.  Life, all of a sudden, will not feel so difficult and, at the same time you will strengthen your talents.

I have been there...

It's very difficult for an Artist, Illustrator and, Designer to know, if they are on the correct path when creating works of art.  We may design a piece of artwork, illustration or pattern; tuck the piece away for a few days, weeks, even months; return to review the same works of art again, realize changes need to be made, so the artwork pops, gets noticed by those around us, especially manufacturers. That is what happened with the surface pattern above, the first go around was not enough to make the pattern "POP."  Hopefully, I succeeded this time around...

This week has been interesting to say the least.  Starting a new surface pattern is never easy, because artists never know where the artwork is going to take them.  We hope somewhere wonderful. I believe that is where the above surface pattern took me, somewhere really wonderful.  I love the motifs and colorways of the surface pattern.  The motifs are very unique, which is what I was looking when creating the new surface pattern.

Until my next web blog message....wishing you a wonderful weekend.

As of late, I've been having a love affair with Adobe Illustrator and pattern design. I am going to be honest, learning Adobe Illustrator is not easy.  It's one of those software programs you begin to love or hate.  I have decided to love the software program (it's all about attitude), so my pattern designs look amazing.  I am not sure where you are with your creative endeavors, if you want to learn something new and exciting, take the plunge with Adobe Illustrator.  You can take free online classes on with Laura Coyle and Do not own Adobe Illustrator, you can download the trial version at

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.  Happy Father's Day to you and yours.

In my opinion the above photographs are what pure wanderlust is all about, from
the beauty inside and out, it's wanderlust at its finest.  The mansion is called
"Marble House" located in the beautiful area of Newport, RI.  The green and red building is the tea house where the owners would entertain their guests outside
in the backyard, near the Atlantic ocean. The mansion was owned by Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. The mansion took nearly four years to build - a reported
$11 million in 1892.

I wish the Preservation Society of Newport County allowed photographs inside the mansions, although, to preserve fabrics, paintings, and furnishings photographs are not allowed, although, do not despair, if you want to learn more about the Mansions in Newport, RI, the Preservation Society has published a book "Newport Mansions" and can be purchased on Even though, we were able to visit inside the mansions, Joe and I purchased the book, so we can remember the inside beauty of the mansions, pure "Wanderlust."

Clam Chowder - Black Pearl Restaurant - Newport, RI.  If you ever visit Newport, RI, please eat at the Black Pearl Restaurant, you will not be disappointed.  My husband and I really enjoyed the meal.  The clam chowder was outstanding. I have to be honest, we ate a lot of clam chowder within within Boston, MA and Newport, RI.  It was our desire to sample from the best restaurants within the two states.  Another wonderful restaurant is the Union Oyster House in Boston, MA, the food is excellent. It was so good we ate at the restaurant twice; clam chowder, fish and chips. Yum!

More vacation photographs to follow....

Spring and Summer of 2014, Joe and I have been all over the place, visiting surrounding areas in California, traveling all the way to Boston, MA to Newport, RI. I actually look forward to our vacations.  It makes life worth living, especially when you travel with the one you love.  Joe and I are looking forward to our next vacation. I wonder where the next travels will take us.

The photograph above was taken while visiting Boston Commons.

Everyday that I live, I am thankful for all the precious moments that come into my life.  One of those moments is when my husband and I traveled to New York.  We have traveled to New York many times within our marriage.  Today, I decided to create a collage of one of our trips.  Our next trip, this year, Boston.  I can't wait, it's just around the corner.  Where have you traveled? Feel free to share your precious moments?

My husband auditioning one of the many antiques at the New York antique fair.  If you have never traveled to New York, please, place it on your bucket list.  So much history, great food, and wonderful people to meet from around the world.

Love the "Precious Moments."

I love this quote "The Life You Have Led Doesn't Need to Be The Only Life You Have", so true, isn't it?  We can always start over and, create a life we adore and, cherish.  It's the same with being creative.  That's what I love about being a Surface Designer, there is always something new to learn and, to create.  How about you?  Are you "Living Your Fabulicious Life?"

Try escaping the everyday life, create a fun and fabulous weekend.

When I started blogging, I was not quite sure how I wanted to represent myself.  The challenge was how to translate who I am as a person and, Surface Designer.  To be honest, I was a quite nervous to show myself to the world of blogging.  It can be intimating at times; what I decided to do is use the situation as a continued educational adventure;" learning by doing" as I stated in my previous post. With each message posted, it becomes a little easier to write about my creative experiences.  I hope after reading my messages, you walk away uplifted and encouraged to start your own web blog and write about your creativity.

Below is a new surface pattern; This is the first time, I have jumped into the world of mixed media, very challenging to say the least.  If you're interested in getting involved with mixed media artwork you can purchase magazines at the bookstore or on the Internet. The best magazines, I have found are from, the Somerset Studio magazines are full of wonderful articles and lessons.  Another wonderful magazine is Cloth, Paper, Scissors,

Below is the mixed media artwork I created this afternoon.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Tomorrow, my husband and I will be spending the afternoon at with my Mother-in-Law, siblings, nieces and, nephews for a late Easter gathering.  We always have a wonderful time when we get together.  Until next time!!

I have always been a firm believer, the only way to learn is by doing.  Being creative has always been an integral part of my life.  As a child, I was always drawing this or that.  While in my twenties, I learned not to take life for granted.  I learned we can not wait until tomorrow, next month or next year to follow our dreams. It took me some time to put what I learned into practice.  I had to wear various hats for a while before I came into full circle with my creativity.

With that being said, you are probably wondering why I am writing the above.  If you're aware of having creative talents and, wondering where to start, the only way you can start is to jump in with both feet.  Find an area that sparks your interest and take a class; many classes or if you want to take the self taught route, there are many free classes you can take online (YouTube is a good source).  After exploring your various talents, you will find exactly where you need to be in the world of creativity.

Today, I made sure to design a surface pattern for my art licensing business.  Everyday, you will need to be creative in one area or another.  Go from Dreaming to Doing!! This is how you will grow as an Artist!!

The many looks and feel of a surface pattern!

I am so happy the week is almost over, this month is about property and incomes taxes. Did you have the same?  Every time, I jump back into the world of creativity, tasks jump out at me that need my attention. Although, today I am happy to report, my day is free to create and, full of creative ideas.

As most of you know, my favorite flowers are roses.  Two years ago, my husband planted roses for me in our front yard.  The rose bushes are now in full bloom.

Beautiful roses above from our front yard.

Surface pattern above inspired by the roses in our front yard.
The surface pattern will be included in my next artwork collection.
Before I close out this post, I want to wish everyone a "Happy Easter" Sunday.  I hope you and your family have a wonderful time.

It has been a few weeks since I posted my last message.  I have been working on new artwork.  To say the least, it was a little difficult to get my creativity going again. Although, I was not going to give up, because I knew within me all things creative have been yearning to get out and, splash the world with color, once again.  I have been creating all my life in one form or another, whether painting, mixed media, ceramics or crafts (you name it), I have probably jumped into that world of creativity. The last couple of years have been very difficult for me, especially last year.  We really never know what is going to come around the corner, so to have my artwork to fall back on has been wonderful. Returning to the drawing board feels really good.

As many of you know, working within the Art Licensing industry, I am only able to show tidbits of artwork.  I hope you enjoy the surface pattern above in various colorways.

Until next time...

Here We Go! Something very new! Diane Ledesma from Fresno CA designed the adorable girly girl headbands.  Diane is actually my Cousin's wife and she offered to show me how South Hampton and the Sonoma Fabric collections worked together for trendy headbands.  I really love how Diane was able to blend the two collections using various rosettes to offer a unique style for little girls.

Thank you Diane for your generous offer.  It's always inspiring when another Designer enjoys
working with my fabric collections.

Hopefully, you will find inspiration in creating your own headbands for the little girls in your life.

The two photographs above were tagged at Momi Boutique's web site.  I really love when Rachel uses my fabric collections to design her girly girl toddler clothing and, the Dockside Top is no exception.  The top is trendy, playful, and beautiful all at the same time.

The South Hampton geometric pattern was used to tie this design together and it's actually one of my favorites, because of the way Rachel designed the back of the Dockside top.  Rachel's designs are so unique, I'm always auditioning her clothing line.  I'm hope you don't mind all the wonderful eye candy for girly girls worldwide.

You can visit Momi Boutique at or Rachel's Etsy store at

Thank you again Rachel for another trendy and plaful design using the South Hampton geometric pattern.

A photograph has been tagged on the Thimbles, Bobbins, Paper, and Ink web blog.  Jennifer gave me permission to audition the adorable toddler dress using the Sonoma rose fabric.  There is also a cute little bunny from the same fabric on Jennifer's web blog.

Jennifer also has a Martha Stewart video on how to sew the smock part of the dress using elastic thread in the bobbin.  The toddler dress only uses 1/2 yard of fabric, which is wonderful for Designers creating toddler boutique clothing.  Below is Jennifer's web blog address:

Thank you Jennifer for designing such an adorable toddler dress and for using the Sonoma rose fabric.

Photographs have been tagged on the Etsy web site.  An apron designed by Creative Chics using the Sonoma fabric collection.  The pattern has a sexy halter back, which makes the apron very adorable.  I really love when I come across Designers using my fabric collections.  It makes the creative process of designing for the fabric manufacturers a pure delight.  When another Designer can earn a living using my collections, I get a very warm feeling in my heart.  My prayer for each collection is that someone will come across the fabric and fall in love with it and will want to use it for their creations.  Creative Chics sent me a very nice message about the Sonoma fabrics, which I will always keep close to my heart.  Thank You Creative Chics for a very trendy, adorable apron.

If you would like to see more of Creative Chics apron designs, please visit their Etsy web site at
you will not be disappointed.

The last four days have been wonderful.  I was able to spend time with my family.  Last Wednesday, we gathered together to attend Sarah's High School Graduation.  On Friday, everyone gathered at our home during the day, so Leila and Saven could have a play date and, as you can see by the photograph, both of them were having a great time watercolor painting.  After, the paintings dried, I made sure to add their name, month, and year.  The toddlers decided to hang their paintings on the pantry door.  My great-Nephew Saven thought that was really something.  Leila is already use to auditioning her paintings on the walls of our home.

Friday evening, we all went together for a family dinner at one our favorite restaurants (Luna's Italian Restaurant in Clovis, CA).  Every Friday, during the summer months, Clovis, CA has a Farmer's Market where fresh fruit and vegetables are sold.  Old Town Clovis even hires a band and everyone dances as the band plays, the event even has games for the kids and pony rides.  The evening with my family was very nice and the weather was beautiful.

On Saturday, the time came for my parents to leave back home to Morro Bay, CA.
I will always remember the weekend when we gathered for Sarah's graduation.  As we know, nothing is guaranteed in this life, so spending time with family is very important.

I love showing off my family. Sarah at her Sweet 16 Birthday Party!

Monday, August 17, 2009

Leila actually thought she was hiding in between her Mommy's legs. At 20 months, she is a shy little one. Leila thought she would go under cover. Before I snapped this photo, Leila had her head down, making sure not to look at any of the guests at Sarah's Sweet 16th Birthday Party. I called her name and she looked up at me, that's when I took the photo. Little did she know everyone could see her. The wonderful imagination of a child is precious!

Sarah and her wonderful BFF's took a Limo ride around the town after her Sweet 16 Birthday party. All of the young ladies are so cute. Wow! Returning back to High School would be so much fun.

Do you remember what you were doing for your Sweet 16 Birthday?

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

OMG, Where have I been lately? Actually, I have been spending a few of my Summer days with the stunning beauty above. Last week, Sarah turned Sweet 16. It's hard to believe, seems like yesterday she made her grand entrance into this world. This past weekend, my Brother and Sister-in-Law gave a Birthday Bash for Sarah. Our family and Sarah's BFF's had so much fun. I will be posting pics of the event. So, keep your eyes posted to this web blog!

"Where Women Create" featuring Artists and their Studios. This is the second book I have purchased from the Company, Stampington. These books are so inspiring, they actually go beyond the Artists Studios.

In this issue, Marie Osmond is featured, the story is enchanting and her studio is awesome, vintage inspired.

Please treat yourself to a wonderful gift "Where Women Create". You will be so inspired, to the point, where you start redecorating your very own creative studio.

I also love the back of the book that showcases products from creative women. The Company, Earth Angels Toys.

Have fun reading this fabulous book.
